Prebirth Acupuncture Treatment

Acupuncture and Acupressure during pregnancy is both a safe and effective therapy that can be used throughout all trimesters.  Prebirth acupuncture refers to a series of treatments in the final few weeks of pregnancy to prepare women for childbirth.  The treatment emphasis is to prepare the cervix and pelvis for labour while also softening the sinews, tendons and muscles.  At this stage Acupuncture can also help to treat medical conditions such as heartburn, constipation, insomnia and haemorrhoids.

It is usually recommended to have weekly visits when the gestational age of 36-37 weeks has been reached.  Research has demonstrated that treatment at this stage can reduce the duration of and aide with an efficient labour, midwives in this research also reported a reduced rate of medical interventions http://acupuncture.rhizome.net.nz/Research-prebirth.aspx.

As part of the prebirth Acupuncture you will be shown effective Acupressure points for you and your partner to use during labour, these will include points to relieve backpain, help the cervix to dilate and reduce contraction surges.  Post partum nutritional and dietary advice will be discussed to help with a timely recovery and replenish blood and energy levels.
